Synopsis
Muthayya is a comedy drama set in a remote village in Telangana, and it tells the story of a 70-year-old man, Muthayya, who dreams of acting in movies before he dies. He shares all his joys and sorrows with his best friend Malli, a 24-year-old guy who runs a cycle repair shop in the same village. As the story unfolds, Muthayya tries to exhibit his acting skills through every possible medium including short films and TikTok videos, but the obstacles he faces in the process leave him heartbroken. The rest of the story is about how Muthayya achieves his dream and inspires everyone around him.
Muthayya is an award-winning Telugu feature film, starring Sudhakar Reddy and Arun Raj in lead roles. The film has been directed by Bhaskhar Maurya, and produced by Vamsi Krishna Karumanchi and Vrinda Prasad. The film won the Best Indian Feature Film award at the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival, and was officially selected for screening at UK Asian Film Festival, South Asian Film Festival of Montreal among a few others.

Bhaskhar Maurya is a Hyderabad-based Telugu filmmaker who has been working on feature films and web-series in Telugu film industry for the past few years. Muthayya is his debut film as a director. He has written and directed the film. Apart from this, he has also directed the Telugu adaptation of TVF’s ‘Panchayat’ web series, and it’s currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

"Muthayya tells the story of a 70-year-old man, who lives in a small village in Telangana, and how he goes on to achieve the biggest dream of his life - to act in a film - even though he had failed many times in the past. I wrote this story to drive home the point that one should never give up, no matter what. There was a phase in my life where I was struggling both professionally and personally. It was during this time that I met many people in my hometown who never gave up on their dreams and emerged as winners in their lives. In that phase, motivation was the only food for my dreams till they came true. I hope every person understands that one needs to be physically, mentally, and emotionally strong every day in their path to success. In the process of writing this film, I observed many people who achieved, struggling to achieve, dreaming to fulfil their dreams. Some have remained as failures too. They told me many stories about their lives, and I saw myself as one of them. Several people I met in my life inspired me to write Muthayya. Muthayya is a story of dreams, passion, and confidence. I wanted to show people the life of a man with a bellyful of dreams who never gives up in this film. Although some real life characters inspired me to write this story, my own real life experiences made me complete writing and making this film. Choosing a 70-year-old man as the lead protagonist made the story more interesting and emotional. I sincerely hope that Muthayya’s passion and dedication to achieve his dreams will inspire everyone who watches our film."
